It almost happened to me twice—first with merengue, and now again with the YouTube algorithm. But every time the world tried to pigeonhole me, I decided against it. Don't get stuck in just one style. That's the message of this video, and it's the most important lesson I can give to any aspiring mixing engineer: diversify before the market forces you to. I learned urban mixing, salsa mixing, Latin percussion mixing—everything—because I understood that my value wasn't in a genre, it was in my judgment. That decision took me from being a studio assistant to mixing the album for Tego Calderón, La Secta, and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico—two Grammy nominations, one win. It wasn't luck.
