Western Australia's reef WAS magical (8 years later)
Is Ningaloo Reef still worth visiting after the recent coral bleaching event? Eight years ago, I visited Ningaloo Reef in Exmouth, Western Australia and was amazed by the colourful coral, crystal-clear water and abundance of marine life. Since then, Ningaloo Reef has been hit by one of the most severe marine heatwaves ever recorded in Western Australia, with reports suggesting that significant areas of coral have been affected by bleaching. So, on our Western Australia road trip, I returned to Exmouth and Cape Range National Park to see what Ningaloo Reef looks like in 2026. In this video, we explore Exmouth, drive into Cape Range National Park, visit the Milyering Discovery Centre and head to some of the region's most famous snorkelling spots, including Lakeside and Turquoise Bay. Along the way, I talk about coral bleaching, climate change, marine heatwaves and how these events are affecting one of Australia's most famous reefs. Ningaloo Reef is one of the world's largest fringing reefs and one of the top attractions on the Western Australia Coral Coast. Located near Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef is famous for whale sharks, turtles, rays, colourful fish, snorkelling and diving. Unlike the Great Barrier Reef, much of Ningaloo Reef can be accessed directly from the beach, making it one of the easiest coral reefs in Australia to visit. We also discuss: • Coral bleaching at Ningaloo Reef • The Western Australia marine heatwave • Snorkelling at Ningaloo Reef • Turquoise Bay snorkelling conditions • Cape Range National Park travel tips • What Exmouth is really like • Wildlife at Ningaloo Reef • Whether Ningaloo Reef is still worth visiting 📍 Places featured in this video: Exmouth, Western Australia Ningaloo Reef Cape Range National Park Turquoise Bay Lakeside Milyering Discovery Centre Coral Coast, Western Australia If you fancy contributing to the channel, here is my Kofi page ☺️☕️ https://ko-fi.com/clairesfootsteps You can also support me by using my affiliate links (which are at no extra cost to you) or simply watching more videos 🙂 Thank you!
