Is the Soul the Same as God‘s Infinite Being?

What does the word ‘soul’ really mean, and why do so many people interpret it so differently? Rupert says: ‘For Meister Eckhart, the soul encompasses the entire spectrum of mind – from the finite faculties of thought and perception to the infinite ground of God’s being. He divides it into two aspects: the “powers” – thinking, feeling, imagining, sensing – which are the faculties of the finite mind; and the “ground,” which is consciousness itself, our being. The mind isn’t just its faculties – it is also that which knows them.’ ‘Imagine a white sheet of paper with a circle drawn on it, and dots inside the circle. The white paper is infinite consciousness, the boundary of the circle is our sense perceptions creating the feeling of isolated consciousness, and the dots are our thoughts and feelings.
