DYA717 Japan H_I_S Taste of Japan Summer June 27, 2026 [Mercure Hida Takayama, Takayama old town, UNESCO Shirakawa-go] Day 8 – June 27 (Saturday) –FYI, last night a little after 10 p.m.-ish, there was a 5.6 earthquake about 100+ miles away in the Yamanashi 5 lakes area where we recently visited. I felt just a slight shake in my room! 7:30 a.m. breakfast a Mercure Hida Takayama. This is a small hotel and groups were assigned time slots. Google said today will be a cloudy 63-81 degrees. A short bus ride took us to Takayama old town. Yuumi led us to the start of the open market street and we had free time. Lunch was on our own. We left Takayama around 1 p.m. and headed for a 1-hour ride to Shirakawa-go. It’s a unique UNESCO World Heritage village made of steep angled thatched roofs. Then back to Takayama for a Hida beef dinner. Hida beef is in the same class as Kobe beef. ONO, ONO, ONO! This video is a composite of misc photos I usually share with family and friends.
