DYA717 Japan H I S Taste of Japan Summer #2 June 26, 2026

DYA717 Japan H_I_S Taste of Japan Summer #2 June 26, 2026 [Hotel Buena Vista, Daio Wasabi Farm, Kamikochi valley, Mercure Hida Takayama] Day 7 – June 26 (Friday) – 6:30 a.m. breakfast at Hotel Buena Vista. The TV stations said 2 typhoons were heding to Japan and may converge close to Tokyo. Today headed out to Takayama and Google said today will be a rainy 64-73 degrees. Our guide said some of the places we’ll visit are on higher elevations so the temperature will be like 52-59 degrees. First stop was at the Daio Wasabi Farm. Then on to a soba making DIY class. After mixing water to the buckwheat flour, we kneaded the dough and rolled it flat and then cut it into soba strips. We put our ID on our concoction; they cooked it and served it to us for lunch. For the big eaters, they could pay extra to get a mixed tempura plate, etc. My soba tasted OK. Then we headed for a long ride to Kamikochi which is in Nagano Prefecture and in the Japan Alps. We were supposed to walk around a bit but the park was closed due to rain. So the guide took us to Hidafurukawa which is a nicely preserved old town in Gifu Prefecture. We visited a local festival float museum, saw a video explaining the Hidefurukawa Festival. Then a side visit to a miso senbei store. Then a short drive to Takayama City. We checked into the Mercure Hida Takayama. Dinner was at 6:15 p.m. at the hotel. This video is a composite of misc photos I usually share with family and friends. Nothing fancy; you’re welcome to view it.
