What Do Barbe Rouge Hops Taste Like? SMaSH Beer Experiment

A completely different nation for us this week as we add Barbe Rouge Hops to our growing SMaSH beer series. This hop was difficult to nail a specific character to during our tasting. That is not to say this hop doesn't have any character. It was a really great hop experience that was fruity and interesting. The bittering quality was light and sufficient to carry the beer. The aroma was fruity, somewhat of an orange or mixed berry presence. Nothing stood out strongly as a defining flavor aroma note but we really loved that this hop was intense enough to make a really interesting SMaSH brew all by itself. We would not hesitate to use this as a stand alone hop or to try and start blending it with some other hops that had similar orange and muted berry tones to it. This was an interesting one and you should try and get your hands on these hops.
