The Parable of the Rich Fool By Jeremy Anderson (Luke 12:13-21)

A dispute over an inheritance becomes a warning about the deeper issue of the heart. In Luke 12:13–21, Jesus tells the parable of a rich man who has more than enough, builds larger barns, and plans to enjoy a secure future. But God calls him a fool because he has stored up wealth for himself without becoming rich toward God. This message shows that greed is not limited to money. It can take the form of craving more comfort, status, control, recognition, security, leisure, or possessions. No income level makes a person immune. Jesus warns His followers to be alert because life is not defined by the abundance of what we own. The issue is not whether resources are good. The issue is whether we treat them as our identity, our security, or our ultimate goal. Real life is found in Christ, and wisdom means using what God gives with open hands and an eternal perspective. Main Passage: Luke 12:13–21 Big Idea: Life is more than what we possess, so we must guard our hearts against every form of greed.
