D'Addario Chromes Review: Want Bright Flatwounds for Semi-Hollow Bass? Welcome to Episode 1 of my unsponsored flatwound shootout on the Ibanez AGB200 semi-hollow bass. In this series, I’m testing a wide range of strings—from LaBella and Pyramid to Thomastik-Infeld—to find the perfect musical match for this short-scale bass. We’re kicking things off with the D'Addario Chromes (ECB81). I’m also addressing a frequently asked question: Can you safely put full-scale flatwounds on a short-scale bass? Even though you ideally want a medium scale length for the AGB200, I’ve installed a long-scale set here to show you exactly how they fit and if they survive. *Also in this video: I’ve reproduced the neck dive demonstration that was accidentally missed in my original review of this bass. I will try to keep variables as consistent as possible through the series - same signal chain, same setup and string-to-pickup height as possible, same track, same hand/plucking position.
