This Indian lentil soup is simply perfect for the cold season. Dal Makhani literally translates to butter lentils. So, admittedly, it's not the lowest-calorie dish from India, but it's a hearty meal with plenty of protein that's perfect for winter. The dal recipe is very easy to prepare and tastes spicy and warming thanks to its delicious blend of spices. Oh, and if you like the serving bowl, you can find it here: https://amzn.to/2QKGNTv* Ingredients: 200g urad lentils (dry) (https://amzn.to/36CWvpX)* 50g adzuki beans (dry) or small white beans (https://amzn.to/2rPqXyf)* 45g butter (for vegans, use Alba oil: https://amzn.to/2YPIm5Y)* 30g garlic-ginger paste 1/2 tsp Kashmiri chili powder (https://amzn.to/36BTC8L)* 150g tomato passata 1 tsp Kasuri methi (https://amzn.to/36AMKIN)* 800ml water A little cream For the finishing touch: 1 chopped garlic clove 2 tbsp oil (Sunflower oil) Spices: 1 cinnamon stick 1 black cardamom (https://amzn.to/2rEjUbW)* 3 green cardamom pods Asafoetida (instead of onions) (https://amzn.to/36zF75t)* 1 tsp cumin ½ tsp turmeric 1 tsp coriander powder (https://amzn.to/2EiKslx)* ½ tsp garam masala (Watch the video here:    • Basic Garam Masala Rezept | Ein Muss für j...  ) Salt Preparation: First, wash your lentils and let them soak overnight. This makes them easier to digest. Discard the soaking water. Bring 800ml of water to a boil in a pot. Add your lentils and let them cook until soft. It takes about 30 minutes in the pressure cooker. Lentils only need about 15 minutes in the pressure cooker. As soon as the lentils are sufficiently soft, set them aside, but don't discard the cooking water! A little tip: Dal Makhani should have a nice creamy consistency; some of the lentils should have broken down. If this is still not the case after cooking, you can briefly puree a few lentils with an immersion blender, and your Dal Makhani will be nice and creamy. In another pot, heat butter. Save a small knob of butter for later. Vegans can replace the butter with alba oil, for example. Now add the cinnamon stick, black cardamom, green cardamom, cumin seeds, and asafoetida (gives an onion flavor) to the hot butter. If you don't have asafoetida, you can add a finely chopped onion to the butter and let it brown. An onion isn't absolutely necessary, though. The daal will still be nice and savory. Then add the garlic-ginger paste, turmeric, coriander powder, Kashmiri chili powder, and a little salt. Once the spices are nicely toasted, add the tomato passata. Let the sauce simmer until it thickens and begins to shimmer, with oil beginning to seep through the sides. Add the cooked lentils and their liquid to the masala base and let everything simmer with the lid closed for about 20 minutes. If you like, you can add a garlic finish by chopping a clove of garlic and frying it in oil until lightly browned. Now turn off the heat and top everything off with a pinch of garam masala (basic). Then add the finish to the dal makhani. If you skip this step, you should still add some garam masala to the daal at the end.
