The US Central Command explained that the additional airstrikes were launched at the direction of President Trump to weaken Iran's ability to attack civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian military also launched a large-scale counterattack, including releasing footage of missile launches. Although Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously declared a renewed blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Trump insisted that the strait remains open. He also blamed Iran for the recent armed clashes, stating that Iran attacked ships immediately after reaching an agreement during negotiations. The U.S. warned that if Iran continues to attack ships, it will have no choice but to respond with overwhelming force, advising Iran to crack down on its internal affairs.
