Deux temps, deux mondes ou la littérature algérienne face à son passé

Disenchantment and Indigenism in Algerian Literature: The Case of Mourad Bourboune In this episode of Cultures-Médias Algérie, I address two major themes in contemporary Algerian literature: firstly, the disenchantment that structures so many novels since independence, torn between a past full of hope and a disappointing present; secondly, the worrying resurgence of indigenism, this sometimes unconscious perpetuation of colonial discourse clichés by certain contemporary authors. This provides an opportunity to focus at length on Mourad Bourboune, a writer who is too little known, and on his novel The Muezzin, as well as on the notion of "paradoxical syncretism," which allows us to consider the unacknowledged colonial influence at work in our literary productions, regardless of the language used. I will also discuss issues related to expectations and literary prizes. My books on theater, literature, and anthropology are available on Amazon.
