Crime on Oahu Isn't Just a Waianae Problem

When we hear about Waianae in the news, it's usually because of some kind of crime or violence. At a recent town hall meeting with the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, residents of Waianae brought up the increase in crime in the area. However, the Mayor had an interesting response, stating that the community should do something about it themselves. I was quite shocked by that response and wanted to talk about why that may be difficult to do and wonder if this applies to other parts of Oahu as well.
