THE SEATTLE-TACOMA INTERURBAN RAILWAY EP 3 "Gone the Way of the Stagecoach"

Episode 3 — "Gone the Way of the Stagecoach" The automobile arrived quietly, then all at once. Roads were built. Buses multiplied. Henry Ford's production lines made cars available to everyone. By 1928, after three years of losses, the Puget Sound Electric Railway filed for bankruptcy. On December 28th, Superintendent Hoffman dispatched his final orders: "Keep the 556 through on your runs, and when you arrive at Renton on the last trim, take the 556 to Kent and go home. Goodbye." The memory never died — and neither did the question of what the Puget Sound might look like today if the interurban had survived.
