Primitive pottery – Bushcraft – DIY – Clay vessel - Fire

My forest brother and sister from Estonia visited me and showed me an unique technique how to burn clay vessel. I have not seen this one before and I think it is amazing because it gets up high in temperature and makes coal which burns after the initial burn. Because it is buried the cool down is slower which is important otherwise the stuff will crack. This is not an educational video per se but if you pay attention to all the details it will take you a long way. Some tips: Let the pottery dry for at least two weeks. Don’t cover it completely before you light it. It is easier to manage the fire and se that it lights properly. The hole should be in the direction of the wind so it blows into it. This technique was supposed to be a workshop at my Workshop Weekend ( www.workshopweekend.se ) but we had to have it after. So we made this video to share to everyone instead.
