The Patty Melt I've Been Chasing Since Childhood!

Sometimes one meal leads you to another. Recently, a simple ham and swiss on rye bread sent me down a path of food memories that led straight back to one of my favorite diner classics: the Patty Melt. Today we're building a classic patty melt with grilled beef, caramelized onions, melted Swiss cheese, and toasted rye bread. Complete with a side of extra crispy fries and plenty of ketchup. Along the way, I talk about two different styles of rye bread and why rye has played such an important role in some of my favorite food memories. Because sometimes the best meals aren't about the ingredients. Sometimes they're about the memories attached to them. 👉 Full recipe below — let's get cooking. INGREDIENTS Ground beef Swiss cheese Onion Rye bread (New York Deli style seeded deli rye) Butter Salt Pepper METHOD 1. Grill/Caramelize onions. 2. Form and season beef patties. 3. Cook patties until browned. 4. Toast rye bread with butter. 5. Layer bread, cheese, beef, onions, and more cheese. 6. Grill until golden brown and melty. 7. Serve hot. DAD'S TIP: The bread matters. A good rye bread doesn't just hold the sandwich together—it becomes part of the flavor DNA. @FabFeral5Dad Pull up a stool — there's room at the counter.
