I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS WARSAW | Poland In this episode of A Mole Around the World, I take you on a tour of Warsaw, a city that was almost completely reborn after World War II. We explore everything from its rawest history to its vibrant present, combining Soviet architecture, Jewish heritage, local cuisine, Polish culture, and very personal moments traveling with my mom. We visit the imposing Palace of Culture and Science, the skyscraper "gift" from the Soviet Union, go to the cinema, climb to the upper floors, discover incredible curiosities (like the 15 cats that "work" there), and see how Warsaw was rebuilt after being 80% destroyed. We also explore the Warsaw Ghetto, the bridge that connected its two parts, the bullet holes, the memorials, the history of the resistance, and the tragedy of the Holocaust. We enter the Nożyk Synagogue, the only one that survived the war, and even find a mural in Yiddish that says "The Locomotive." I show you what it's like to experience the extreme heat in the city, we try a yerba mate drink made in Poland, we eat almond challah, we walk through the reconstructed historic center, I rent an electric scooter to cross the Vistula River (very expensive!), we stroll through the Praga district, and we talk about Esperanto and its Polish creator. I end the day walking through Warsaw in the early morning, experiencing its tranquility, the quiet parties, a 4 AM delivery, and the almost deserted nightlife.
