What are the worst invasive fish species? In this video I will be trying to that question and many others you may have about invasive fish species. An invasive species is any plant or animal that has be introduced into an ecosystem where it doesn't belong, normally having negative impacts on native animal and plant species. Invasive fish don't only endanger native fish species but they can also cause millions of dollars worth of damage. Todays video is a little different as I will be going through 3 problem invasive fish species and 1 invasive snail species and 1 invasive crab species. Creative commons licences: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/ For our first invasive fish species we will be travelling to the freshwaters of Europe and Asia as we have the tench. The tench is a very hardy fish that is known for being a very greedy fish. The tench is invasive over some parts of the US and Canada. For our next invasive species we will be heading to the marine waters around northern Europe as we have the red king crab. The red king crab is native to the pacific ocean but was introduced into northern European waters for the fishing industry. For our next invasive fish we will be heading to the waters of north America as we have the brook trout. The brook trout is actually a member of the char family. Even though the brook trout's numbers are in decline in it's native range, they are invasive over other parts of the US. For our next invasive species we will be heading to the freshwaters of south America as we have the apple snail. Apple snails are very popular in aquariums as they both grow very large and they also do a very good job at cleaning up the tank. When fish keepers release them into the wild then soon cause problems as they can reproduce rapidly. Our final invasive fish is the burbot. The burbot is a large predatory fish so it is very able to negatively effect native fish populations.
