Like many other problem invasive fish species the clown knifefish is a popular aquarium fish. Many fish keepers are unaware of their potential size and release them into the wild and they have become a big problem in the freshwaters of Florida. Our next invasive fish species is the common carp. Although the common carp is only native to Europe and Asia it has now been introduced into every part of the world apart from the poles. The common carp is a destructive invasive species as it degrades the water quality of lakes and rivers. Our next Invasive fish species is the zander. The zander is a large predatory fish that now inhabits many of the freshwaters of Europe. It's large eyes mean it is a specialist at hunting in murky waters. Our Forth invasive fish species is the wels catfish. The wels catfish is a true river monster and is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. It's size means it can be a big problem invasive fish as they eat anything they can fit in their mouths. Our last invasive fish species is the pumpkinseed fish. This small sunfish is native to the freshwaters of the USA but was introduced into Europe in the early nineteen hundreds. The pumpkinseed fish was originally introduced as a pond fish but has since spread throughout many countries in Europe. What do you think is the worst invasive fish species?
