It's the capital of Kedah state and one of Malaysia's most important rice-producing regions. Beyond the vast rice paddies, we visited a curry rice restaurant with over 40 years of history, a kaya biscuit shop established in 1970, the Pekan Rabu traditional market, the Zahir Mosque, and many other old shops steeped in history, rediscovering this understated yet charming city. We initially thought this would be a trip focused primarily on food and scenery, but what impressed us most were the people we met along the way and their attitudes towards life.
