Japanese Summer Gift "Ochugen" - Wrapping with Art Calligraphy

In this video, I'm using a sheet of washi paper hand-written by Japanese art calligrapher, Miyuu with the word "Arigatou" (ありがとう - "thank you") to create a gift wrap for Ochugen, one of Japan's most heartfelt summer traditions. Ochugen is a midsummer custom of sending gratitude, along with wishes for good health, to the people who've supported you throughout the year. This year, I wanted that gratitude to start with the wrapping itself using Miyuu's expressive, free-spirited brushwork as the centerpiece of the gift. If you've never heard of "art shodo" before, it's a world away from the calligraphy taught in Japanese schools - it's calligraphy as pure self-expression, where the energy of the brushstroke matters more than whether the character is even legible.
