The Process of Making Japan's "Magic" Glass Pen ─ Now You Can Only Get One by Lottery
A glass pen so coveted, fans enter its lottery for years without winning. ✒️✨ In Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, Takuji Nakane of Studio Tessar (哲磋工房) crafts what collectors call the "magic wand" glass pen. A mechanical design engineer for 8 years, he left his company after getting married — and turned his weekend glass hobby into a life's work. Every technique of the glass pen, he taught himself. 🔥 In this video, we follow the full process: heating glass in an electric kiln at 565°C, drawing delicate grooves layer by layer, straightening each part on a bench roller until the wobble is under 0.4mm — beyond what the human eye can detect — and grinding the pen tip stroke by stroke until it writes smoothly at any angle. 🖋 His engineering past lives on in every pen: by applying structural mechanics he learned at university, his pens are roughly 7 times stronger. And because glass can break, he designs every pen so it can be repaired. "Glass doesn't die," he says. "Long after I'm gone, these pens can live on for a thousand years." 🌐 Official Site https://studio-tessar.com/ 🛒 Online Shop (BASE) https://stdtessar.base.shop/ 📸 Instagram ・Studio Tessar: / studio_tessar ・Gallery Origin: / gallery_origin 💬 X (Twitter) ・Gallery Origin: https://x.com/Gallery_Origin 📅 Workshop & Visit Reservations ・Coubic: https://coubic.com/tessar-origin ・STORES: https://tessar-origin.stores.jp/reser...
