Ep.02 da série 'ECONOMIA BRASILEIRA' : 1808 – 1888 – Nasce uma pátria

1808 – 1888 – A Nation is Born 2nd episode of the series 'BRAZILIAN ECONOMY - The story told by those who made it' THE SERIES In the series ‘BRAZILIAN ECONOMY – The story told by those who made it’, Brazil's trajectory is told from an economic point of view by some of the main protagonists of the country's recent history. Former presidents of the Republic, former ministers, former directors of the Central Bank, major businessmen, bankers, economists, historians, journalists and academics recount the adventures and misadventures of the country since 1492 and discuss solutions for the Brazilian economy. The fast-paced editing, simple language, graphic animations and archival images (historical paintings and works of art, period photographs and news footage) make the Brazilian saga even more interesting. For its first 388 years, Brazil was a slave-owning society; In the 1950s, 50% of Brazilians were illiterate; by the end of the 1980s, monthly inflation reached 84%, and 35% were poor and destitute. In 2013, Brazil was the seventh largest economy in the world, inflation was 5.4%, poverty had been reduced to 12%, and the country aspired to be rich. “Brazil is the country of the future” and “now Brazil will succeed,” mantras of optimistic phases, were always followed by crises. Success was, once again, fleeting.
