I Thought This Bonsai Was a Failure… I Was Wrong!

Hi everyone and welcome back to the channel 🌿 Today’s video is all about my root-over-rock Chinese elm bonsai, and this one’s had a bit of a journey… This is the tree I spent quite a bit of time training, but if you remember, the last time I worked on the roots… it didn’t exactly go to plan. The root system just wasn’t great, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed with how it turned out. In the end, the only solution I could come up with at the time was to place a rock underneath and between the roots to try and give it something to cling to—and after that… I’ll be honest, I kind of left it alone for a while. Then I came back. After giving it some much-needed care and attention again, the tree itself is actually looking really healthy, really strong—and now I feel like this is the right time to finally revisit the roots and see what’s happened since. So in this video, we lift it out and take a proper look… has it taken to the rock? Have the roots developed into something usable? Or are we back to square one? This is basically giving the tree a second chance. As the top is looking pretty amazing! Once we see what we’re working with, it’s all about refining that root system and getting it into a pot that really shows it off. I’ve got to say… I’m really happy with how it’s looking now. It’s come a long way from where it was, and it finally feels like this tree is heading in the right direction. I hope you enjoy this one—it’s always satisfying when a tree you almost gave up on starts turning things around. If you did enjoy the video, make sure to leave a like 👍 especially if you think the tree is looking as good as I do in its new pot.
