The Nokia 7650 is a smartphone that belongs to the 7xxx series (characterized by including experimental and trendy models). The phone was launched on June 26, 2002, for around €600. It was notable for several firsts: it was the first Nokia smartphone with the Symbian operating system (version 6.1); it was also the first Series 60 device; and it was the first Nokia with a built-in camera. The device was promoted with the film Minority Report. It was announced on November 19, 2001. The Nokia 7650 is a 2.5G consumer-oriented smartphone belonging to the trendy and experimental (7xxx) series. It was unveiled in Barcelona on November 19, 2001, and was described by CEO Jorma Ollila as the company's most important launch that year. Feature-rich, it was the first Nokia phone with a built-in camera (VGA resolution), and its imaging capabilities were therefore widely marketed. It has a large (at the time) 2.1" color screen with a resolution of 176x208 pixels. The 7650 was also the company's first to feature a Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) function, and it also has Bluetooth and GPRS connectivity (although many critics noted its lack of support for Bluetooth headsets). These factors made the 7650 highly publicized at the time, especially since it arrived almost four years after the formation of Symbian Ltd. It was finally released on June 26, 2002, for around €600. The 7650's strong sales helped Symbian OS become the leading product in the European "handheld device market." In the third quarter of 2002, it outperformed Palm OS and Windows CE. By then, its successor, the Nokia 3650, had been released. The importance of the 7650 for its time has been acclaimed in subsequent years, and many consider it one of the most important mobile devices and one of Nokia's most iconic products. It wasn't the first cell phone with a camera, but it was the first to be marketed globally and was a smartphone.
