The Nokia N Series was a set of multimedia devices (some under the "smartphone" category) manufactured by Nokia. Nokia, together with Carl Zeiss, announced a new sub-brand called the Nokia N Series on April 27, 2005, in Amsterdam. This was a product family consisting of multimedia mobile computers. These devices support digital multimedia services: music, video, photography, games, and Internet access. All of them can connect to the Internet using high-speed wireless technologies (such as GPRS, UMTS, HSDPA, or Wi-Fi). The first device in the series, the N70, used version 8.1 of the Symbian OS. Nokia later began using version 9 of the system for all subsequent N series devices (except the N72, which was based on the N70). However, for the "Internet Tablet" devices (Nokia N770, N800, and Nokia N810), the Maemo 3.0 platform (or 5.0, in the case of the N900) was used instead of Symbian. The last phone in the range, the Nokia N9, used the MeeGo operating system. The first models released were the N70, N90, and N91. Subsequently, on November 2, 2005, the N71, N80, and N92 models were released. On April 25, 2006, the N72, N73, and N93 models were announced. On September 26, 2006, the N75 and N95 were announced. The N91 8GB model was also released that same month. In January 2007, the N93i and N76 models were introduced. In February 2007, the N77 was launched. On August 30, 2007, the N81 8GB, N81, and N95 8GB models were released. On November 14, 2007, the N82 was launched. On February 10, 2008, the N78 and N96 models were introduced at Mobile World Congress, significantly improving the N series. In August 2008, the new N85 and N79 models were announced, representing a major step forward with the Symbian Feature Pack 2 operating system. In June 2009, the company introduced the N97, the first N series phone with a full touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard. The N86 also featured an 8MP, 8GB internal storage. In April 2010, the N8 was introduced, the first Nokia phone with a capacitive multitouch screen. The latest phone in the range, the N9, was announced on June 21, 2011, at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore. At the end of 2012, Nokia confirmed that they would no longer produce N series phones and that technical support for these phones would be discontinued in January 2014.
