Even Arnold Schwarzenegger advertises for the discounter. LIDL, ALDI, REWE, EDEKA: WHICH OWN BRAND IS CHEAPER? Why do customers shop at Lidl? How does Lidl compare in terms of price and quality – in a head-to-head comparison with Aldi and the private labels of Rewe and Edeka? Where can you find the best discounts? Marketcheck investigates whether Lidl's slogan "Official Partner of Your Life" holds true. NONFOOD ITEMS: LIDL E-BIKE FAILS LAB TEST Among the numerous non-food products are e-bikes from the private label Crivit – available in men's and women's models. How good is this urban e-bike? While it performed well in practical testing, it failed our lab test. Lidl explains that they tested their e-bike before and during production and, from their perspective, there is no cause for concern. You can find out what our lab criticized in the video. HOW FAIR IS LIDL? HOW MUCH ORGANIC PRODUCTS DOES LIDL HAVE? Lidl says that by the end of 2024, at least 25 percent of its fresh meat range will come from the better animal welfare standards 3 and 4. We tested strawberries, raspberries, apples, bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce. Overall, the freshness is good. However, numerous minor flaws mar the overall result. COLA TEST: WHICH TASTES BEST? Which comes out on top? In a blind taste test: Fritz Cola, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, River Cola from Aldi, and Freeway Cola from Lidl. BAKED GOODS: LIDL BEATS THE COMPETITION WITH PRETZELS Lidl scores points with pretzels over Aldi and Rewe. What do bread testers from the German Bread Institute say about the rolls and bread from the bakery counter? OWN BRANDS: LIDL RELIES ON IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION & IMPORT FOR LOWER COSTS Lidl bakes its own bread, and the discount supermarket chain has also acquired Germany's largest pasta factory. Lidl also imports directly, sometimes using its own cargo ships, for lower costs and greater delivery reliability. LIDL IS WORTH IT – IS THAT TRUE? We compared LIDL's own brands with comparable ALDI products, products from REWE's private label "Ja!", and EDEKA's "Gut und Günstig" brand. The result of the price comparison: surprising. Conclusion of our LIDL check: The overall quality of the products is good. The Crivit e-bike failed our test.
