The core idea is that enabling/disabling a quick key is not the same thing as Avoid (lockout), and anything with “no quick key assigned” will always scan unless you Avoid it. 0:00 Hook: “Stop digging through menus—toggle what you scan in 2 seconds.” 0:15 Explain the 3 layers (FLQK / SQK / DQK/Site QK) and your numbering plan (ex: FLQKs = regions, SQKs = agencies, DQKs = sub-groups). 1:00 Assign quick keys on the scanner (show the menu clicks). 2:30 Toggle keys while scanning (the “dot sequences” + E/yes). 4:00 Troubleshooting: why a key “does nothing,” and how to check Quick Key Status. Step 1: Assign quick keys You can assign quick keys to Favorites Lists, Systems, and Departments/Sites, and there are 100 quick keys available (0–99) for each of those categories. The fastest on-video setup is to assign just enough keys to make your scanning “modes” easy to remember. Assign a Favorites List Quick Key (FLQK): Menu → Manage Favorites Lists → (pick your Favorites List) → Favorites List Options → Set FL Quick Key → pick 0–99. Assign a System Quick Key (SQK): Menu → Manage Favorites Lists → (pick list) → Review/Edit System → (pick system) → Edit Sys Option → Set System Quick Key → pick 0–99. Assign a Department Quick Key (DQK): Menu → Manage Favorites Lists → (pick list) → Review/Edit System → (pick system) → Edit Department → Set Department Quick Key → pick 0–99. (Trunked systems) Assign a Site Quick Key: Menu → Manage Favorites Lists → (pick list) → Review/Edit System → (pick system) → Edit Site → Set Site Quick Key → pick 0–99. Step 2: Make sure they’re “allowed” to scan Two different things can block scanning: the list might not be selected to monitor, or the quick key might be toggled off in Quick Key Status. For a video, it’s worth showing both screens once so viewers understand where they went wrong. Turn Favorites Lists on/off for scanning: Menu → Set Scan Selection → Select Lists to Monitor (set the lists you want to scan to On). Check/toggle key states: Menu → Set Scan Selection → Manage Quick Key Status (this is where you turn FLQKs/SQKs/DQKs/Site QKs On/Off globally). Remind viewers: if a Favorites List/System/Department/Site has no quick key assigned, it will stay enabled and scan (unless Avoided). Step 3: Toggle quick keys live (the demo) While scanning, you enter quick-key “navigation” using the .no key as the separator and press E/yes to execute the toggle. Show these exact examples on-screen—each one reliably demonstrates a different layer. Toggle all Systems that use SQK 3: press .no → 3 → E/yes (example: “.3 E/yes”). Toggle Systems with SQK 4 only inside Favorites List 0: press 0 → .no → 4 → E/yes (example: “0.4 E/yes”). Toggle DQK/Site QK 4 inside all Systems with SQK 2: press .no → 2 → .no → 4 → E/yes (example: “.2.4 E/yes”). Toggle DQK/Site QK 4 inside SQK 1 but only in Favorites List 3: press 3 → .no → 1 → .no → 4 → E/yes (example: “3.1.4 E/yes”). Toggle DQK/Site QK 3 globally: press .no → .no → 3 → E/yes (example: “..3 E/yes”). Exit the Quick Key Navigation screen: press Avoid (or press .no until the display clears).
