Successful Test of the AC 50 & 1238 Curtis Controller

Did a basic setup to get the AC-50 and Controller up and running before I run the auto configuration program of the controller. The issue that prevailed was the encoder. There is a function to reverse the encoder if the motor is running very slowly and cogging. Once you switch the encoder the motor should run if all else is working without fault. This is the very basic setup. I can provide the very basic parameters to get your motor running but you do need to read the manual fully before performing your testing or adding more functions. You really don’t want to learn the hard way. Once the configuration test is done we will be ready to add in more functionality but not until we have the motor mounted into the vehicle. I will be mounting this motor into my 1983 VW Vanagon Single Cab. A rare beast in the US these days. The controller is a 96 volt 650 amp controller that can be setup to run 130 max volts. At 130 volts the controller will shut down from overvoltage to protect itself. Running a bit more volts like 120 will give the little beast a bit more torque punch. A new controller from Kelly Controls will be utilized and will be 144 volts and 1000 amps. Now it can’t run constant at 1000 amps but for the initial start it can. Being able to have 1000 amps on tap will really wake up this motor. Still not Tesla Power but still a good punch.
