Azure Dynamics AC24 Vibration Re-Test

I remov ed the adapter plate and coupler and did a re-test of the motor to see if there was still a vibration. There was. Darn. I could not SEE any vibration but you sure could feel it. So I disconnected the AC24 and connected the AC50 and ran that motor up successfully with zero vibration. So that means the vibration is in the motor. With that I decided to pop the motor end plate using my hydraulic gear puller and it came off easily. I found the issue inside the motor. The motor had a clay putty lump for balancing the motor. The stuff usually sticks quite well and usually holds without issue but the lump had hardened to rock hard and Im guessing with repeated heating and cooling cycles the lump fell off. When it was installed in the Porsche 914 years ago back in 2007 or something like that they had a vibration too. Usually they are couplers and or flywheels and pressure plates out of wack. Nope, this one is the balance putty that dislodged and caused an imbalance in the armature. Its good and the inside the motor looks great. Hoping to now find a motor repair place that can re-balance the armature and put in new bearings and encoder. I will follow up with this when I get to that point. Until then we are going to focus on getting the AC50 installed into the Vanagon Single Cab.
