The plan has always been to open them up so we can gradually turn them into a more park-like pasture, with a mix of trees, native flowers and perennials. Because the fields are so large and the bramble hills rise above our heads, we asked for help clearing them with a big tractor. There are also lots of young trees we want to keep, though, so the mowing has to be done carefully. Clearing part of the field means we can finally reach several spots where rubbish has been dumped over the years, places that have been almost impossible to access until now. Now it becomes much easier to get there on foot and with machinery and start cleaning them up properly. And as has become a bit of a tradition, all of this happens while family is here visiting for Easter, which means there are plenty of extra helping hands. So we clear away what’s been left behind, while also making time for the simple things in between, like playing, an Easter egg hunt and being together.
