Remembering Carver Hill & the Strawberry Shortcake Bike Crash While Driving the KS/MO Border

June 26, 2025 **Remembering my dear friend, BRENDA HILL and the entire Carver family. Rest in Peace** Take a scenic summer drive with me along the beautiful, gravel backroads of the Kansas-Missouri border - just outside of Galena, KS. This driving tour features stunning countryside views, bright blue skies, and fluffy clouds. Also, my grumpy older brother was with me. As we drive over Carver Hill, a grade so steep it's hard to believe a school bus could ever safely cross it, I share a dramatic childhood story about racing down these exact gravel slopes on a Strawberry Shortcake bike. It resulted in a nasty accident that left me nearly unconscious on the rocks, and I talk about the neighbors who came to my rescue, including Brenda and her horse who rode me back home (where I promptly got in big trouble!). Along the way, you'll see some beautiful old barns, a group of curious cows standing under a shade tree watching us drive by, and a quick sighting of a huge nest of vultures peeking out from an overgrown red barn.
