driver view I-55 north from I-270 & I-70 in Edwardsville, IL to IL16 & Litchfield, IL on 8/7/25

This is a dashcam driver view of I-55 north from the exits for I-270 west and for I-70 east in Edwardsville, IL to the exit for IL16 and Litchfield, IL on 8/7/25. In terms of exit #'s., this video covers I-55 between exits 20A and 20B to exit 52. Stated another way, the video starts where I-55 north and I-70 east diverge. If you stay on the I-55 leg you are heading for Chicago. If you take the I-70 east branch, you are heading for Effingham, IL first and ultimately Maryland not too far from Washington, D.C. Among other intersections this video covers the intersections with IL 143 near Edwardsville, IL 140 in Hamel, IL 4 south of Livingston, local roads that connect to Livingston and Staunton, IL 138 near White City, and then at IL 16 for Litchfield and Gillespie. Litchfield is a town of some 6600 residents and has several attractions related to historic US Route 66. Among them are the Ariston Café, the Sky View Theater, and the Belvidere Motel. The Ariston Cafe has been operating since 1924 and is one of the oldest restaurants along historic US 66. It has operated in its present location in Litchfield since in 1935. The Sky View Theater dates back to 1950 and is among the last drive-in theaters still operating along Route 66. In 1936, the Belvidere Motel opened in Litchfield. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, there is also the Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center which is located across from the aforementioned Ariston Café and maintained principally through donations. Gillespie is a town of about 3400 people and has the Illinois Coal Museum and a huge Goat statue some 10 feet tall dubbed "Goat Your Kicks on Route 66."
