This is part 4 of 5 showing showing a complete trip along I-70 in Missouri from I-64 in Wentzville to I-470 in Independence on Memorial Day Eve 2026, to-wit: 5/24/26, which is the Sunday afternoon before Memorial Day 2026. This part 4, which covers some 20 minutes, shows mainly a severely jammed road and traffic between exit 24 for Grain Valley and exit 21 for Adams for NE Adams Dairy Pkwy. That is not a typo--I covered barely 3 miles in 20 some minutes. This was the only traffic jam on I-70 that I encountered during this trip between St. Louis and Kansas City. I just noticed the excessive reflections from my dashboard and have taken steps since to reduce them. In the meantime though, I discovered that watching the video in simple HD 1080/60p minimizes the reflections to a degree as opposed to the higher resolutions available. Have since purchased a dashboard cover but that doesn't help today. I apologize for the distracting reflections which are simply annoying. This jam occurs in a construction zone already underway pursuant to the $2.8 billion MoDOT project named "Improve I-70" to make I-70 from Blue Springs to Wentzville 3 lanes in each direction the entire distance. The nearly 200 miles of activity will take place simultaneously on different sections of the roadway with each one being a discrete project within the overall "Improve I-70" Project. Contracts for projects are planned to continue to be awarded until and throughout 2029. Total completion of the corridor is planned and hoped for by the end of 2030, but I am not holding my breath on that date being achieved. To date, five projects have been awarded and four projects are currently under construction. It is almost ironic or something like that for Missouri to have been so quick to act in the beginning but to take so long to realize that I-70 as originally built with only 2 lanes in each direction between Blue Springs and Wentzville was simply not up to the challenge of ever increasing traffic across Missouri. For at least 20 or more years, there have been editorials and newspaper articles detailing how there simply needed to be more lanes across the middle of the state to adequately handle the increased traffic. Thankfully, in Missouri has finally acted and is funding a $2.8 billion Improve I-70 project which will result in at least 3 lanes each way across the entire state. Construction has already started in several places in this segment of the video and in the first 2.
