The world had no room left for them — no marriage, no future, no mercy. So at midnight they slipped into the falling snow and walked the long road to the forest, where a single pine grows from one root into two trunks twisted together. There they bound themselves, side by side, and chose the only union the living world had denied them. This is not a curse. It is a vow — devotion so absolute it would rather cross into death than spend one more dawn apart. A jealous betrayal, a lover's grudge against an unjust world, and a yandere-tender resolve to never, ever be parted again, carried on soaring female-fronted symphonic gothic metal. A heavy, funeral-paced ballad built on koto, shakuhachi, shamisen and slow taiko, woven through gothic metal guitars and high-tone operatic female vocals. As a tolling dawn bell counts down their final hours, two pale soul-flames rise together toward the husband-and-wife stars — promised to be reborn on one lotus in the world to come. This volume draws on "Sonezaki Shinjū" (曽根崎心中), Chikamatsu Monzaemon's 1703 puppet-theater masterpiece and the work that defined the Japanese "love-suicide" (心中 / shinjū) genre. Key imagery: the michiyuki (道行) — the lovers' poetic night journey to their death; the renri-no-matsu (連理の松) — the two-trunked pine symbolizing two becoming one; and the meoto-boshi (女夫星) — the "husband-and-wife stars" that promise eternal union across the heavens.
