4 - Rhwyfwr Clust Sgwarnog (Hare's Ear Sedge)

In this video I demonstrate pattern number 4 of the Plu Stiniog Series of flies, Rhwyfwr Clust Sgwarnog (Hare's Ear Sedge) found in my book: Plu Stiniog - Trout Flies for North Wales by Emrys Evans. My intentions are to tie all 133 patterns and place them in their own playlist as a video library and bring these old traditional Welsh patterns back to life. This a fairly easy pattern to tie, similar to a March Brown with no tail and a grey wing instead of the typical wing formed from the feathers of a Gamebird. Without the wing it would be an effective fly that is suggestive of a whole host of insects. As is, it is a typical Sedge Pattern in my opinion. This is how a lot of Sedges are tied anyway, but what makes this one special is the almost unpronounceable name. With the help of a Welsh text to speech engine I may have it down, try roo-ee-vur cleest sqar-nog and that is pretty close. "Bearing in mind how plentiful Hares were in the Countryside many years ago, it is likely that this one of our earliest patterns.
