This is a full 360° raw video for people who want to have a closer experience than an edited video. You can view this video on a VR headset for added immersion. While it is best viewed on a VR headset, you can also reorient the view using your phone's gyro, swiping your finger, dragging your mouse, or using your TV remote. North West Passage (E1 5b) a three star route at Castell Helen, Gogarth on Anglesey. First climbed on 1 May 1978 by Al Evans, Jim Moran, Geoff Milburn and Big Sid Siddiqui, the route emerged during the intense period of development that transformed Gogarth's sea cliffs into one of the most important traditional climbing venues in Britain. In this video, my climbing partner and I swing leads on the route, experiencing the adventurous character that makes North West Passage such a popular objective for for many UK trad climbers. Although the technical climbing is relatively moderate by modern standards, the route still retains a distinctly exploratory feel, weaving its way through the steep sea cliff architecture above the Irish Sea. Conditions on the day were excellent. A north-easterly wind left the south-west-facing cliff relatively sheltered, the rock was dry after several days without rain, and the sea below was unusually calm. Along the way I'll occasionally drop in with some commentary on the climbing itself, route finding and gear placements as we make our way up the cliff. If you enjoy traditional climbing, sea-cliff adventures, Gogarth history, gear placements, route-finding and classic British rock climbs, this one should be right up your street. 00:00 Start 00:20 Climbing Begins (Following P1) 10:32 P1 End - Belay & Chit-chat 12:52 P2 Begins - Walking the Ledge 13:42 Route Discussion & Slow Climbing 21:49 Traverse 22:42 Pro Faff 26:37 Traverse Resumes 29:00 Clipping the Peg 32:10 Ascending 39:35 Left - Out of the Groove 41:15 Out of Quickdraws! 45:27 Top-out #TradClimbing #Gogarth #CastellHelen #NorthWestPassage #Anglesey #SeaCliffClimbing #RockClimbing #TraditionalClimbing #UKClimbing #SouthStack #ClimbingHistory #E1 #AdventureClimbing #BetaBloggs #Climbing #Insta360 #VR #4k
