Firewire Cymatic Mini Review – Still Worth Surfing in 2025?

Firewire Cymatic – Mini Review (Slater Designs / LFT & Volcanic) Here’s a quick real-world mini review of the Firewire Cymatic — a Tomo design that’s still available brand new in Firewire’s Volcanic construction, and there are even some LFT models still floating around in shops. I actually ended up with this board through a swap. One of our YouTube subscribers messaged me on Facebook after seeing my Neutrino review. The Neutrino was brand new, but the sizing wasn’t quite right for me — just a bit too thick — so he asked if I wanted to trade it for his Cymatic. He’d only surfed it twice after buying it new from the shop as an LFT. So the Cymatic is basically new to me, even though the design has been around a few years. Today’s session looked perfect on the charts: clean, offshore, lined-up peaks. In reality, it turned into two hours of paddling for only a handful of waves, but I did score one really nice hollow one that shows what the board can do. There are a few turns, a few cover-ups, and enough glimpses of performance to give you a feel for it. I also talk about a previous session in five- to six-foot surf where the Cymatic absolutely came alive — fast, responsive, and that classic Tomo “go anywhere you want” feeling. This board likes a bit of push. If you’re thinking about buying the Cymatic new (Volcanic or LFT) or picking one up second-hand, hopefully this mini review gives you a solid idea of how it performs in 2025.
