Farewell To Ireland - The Greasy Whiskers

‘Farewell to Ireland’ is a widely popular Irish reel in Traditional music and is played frequently in sessions. Its origins interestingly lie in an older Scottish strathspey called ‘Highlanders Farewell to Ireland’. Although we are not Irish trad players, it’s one of our favourite tunes and with Helen visiting us, we thought we’d give it a go. As always, we play it in our own weird, hybrid, old-timey style with a 5-string banjo instead of a tenor and an Indian harmonium which are uncommon in this genre. We were going to record outside as we have been doing recently, but with the weather being not so great, we decided to stay in and annoy the neighbours instead.
