Just Cause 2 - Rico Rodriguez travels to the vast island of Panau, where his former mentor, Tom Sheldon, an agent of the Agency, has disappeared without a trace. It turns out that Sheldon has defected to the local dictator, Alexei Shevtsov, who brutally rules the country while his son tries to cling to power after his death. Rico begins searching for Sheldon, simultaneously aiding three major criminal groups in order to sow chaos throughout the country. Carrying out missions for various factions, he destroys military installations, undermines the regime's economy, and provokes a civil war. In the end, it turns out that Sheldon is not a traitor at all – he was operating undercover. Together, they stop Lyokha, who was attempting to use nuclear weapons against Russia, China, the United States, and, for some reason, Japan. After the victory, the Panay regime falls, and Rico and Sheldon leave Panau, completing their mission. Just Cause 3 - Rico Rodriguez returns to his homeland, the island nation of Medici, which has been seized by the brutal dictator General Igor Hoffman. He has established a totalitarian regime and is using the rare mineral bavarium as a source of immense military power, creating devastating weapons from it. Rico teams up with his old friend Mario Frigo and the local resistance to liberate the country. As the story unfolds, he liberates cities and bases, destroys military infrastructure, disrupts weapons production, and gradually wrests control of Medici from Igor Hoffman. In the finale, the dictator attempts to stop Rico with a bavarium-based superweapon, but is defeated and killed. After his death, Medici is freed, and the residents finally have a chance to build a free country. Just Cause 4 - Rico Rodriguez travels to the South American country of Solis to discover his late father's connection to the secret military organization "Black Hand." In Solis, power is effectively wielded by Black Hand leader Gabriela Morales, who controls the country with her army and experimental weather technology capable of creating tornadoes, lightning, sandstorms, and other natural disasters. Rico joins the rebel Army of Chaos, led by Mira Morales, and begins liberating regions, destroying military installations and advancing the front lines. He gradually learns that his father did not create this weapon, but tried to prevent its use, only to have his research appropriated by the Black Hand. In the finale, Rico destroys the main weather project complex, defeats Gabriela Morales, and thwarts her plans to weaponize the technology.
