This Room Was Hiding… a Nasty Surprise!

Château DIY are back to film with us as we start work on the next gîte bedroom — and of course, another storm rolls in. What we hoped would be a simple makeover quickly reveals hidden problems: two huge cylinders, tangled pipework, and even an old rats’ nest under one of the tanks. With the Creaky Bedroom Suite still ongoing, we’re stripping this final bedroom right back to its bones. We remove the old hot water cylinder, tackle the galvanised steel mains pipework in the rain (with help from our cameraman), and begin drying out the room after years of trapped moisture. Storms, rising river levels, and one very lonely duck keep us company while we reinstall the ensuite toilet, restore a second‑hand marble‑topped nightstand, and hunt for furniture in local brocantes.
