Bamya, üreticisinin yüzünü güldürüyor

The harvest of okra, which began in the Ezine district of Çanakkale, has brought joy to producers. Okra producer Tarkan Eren said he is pleased with the prices this year. Okra is grown on 400 decares of land in Çanakkale, yielding 240 tons annually. The largest production is in Çetmi and Kızılköy, both in the Ezine district, with 110 decares. Harvesting of okra, planted in April this year, began. The harvest of okra has brought joy to producers. Last year, okra was harvested for 14 TL per kilo. "Both the prices and yields are good" Tarkan Eren, a producer in the village of Çetmi who continues his ancestral tradition of okra production, stated that he is pleased with the prices this year, saying, "We grow okra on 5-6 acres every year. Ninety percent of our village is involved in this business. Okra is a difficult vegetable to harvest. It's been 25 years since I started growing it. I've been involved in production since my childhood. We've made a name for ourselves in okra production in this area. This year, the prices are excellent, as are the yields. We harvest about 150-200 kilograms per acre per season. We started harvesting this month. We're harvesting. If we're lucky, we'll go to the markets and sell our produce. Last year, prices were around 14 TL. This year, they're around 15 TL, and they could go up to 20 TL. I don't know what will happen in the future, but for now, as a producer, I'm happy with the prices." "OKRA IS A DIFFICULT VEGETABLE TO HANDLE" Producer Tarkan Eren, noting that okra is difficult to harvest in the field, said, "Okra is difficult to harvest in the field. These hairs are on the surface of the okra. These hairs damage your hands when harvesting. They even thin the skin. While the cost is low, it's a difficult vegetable to work with. We struggle to find workers. We try to pay a little more, but we still can't find any workers. That's why we can only plant in a small area."
