Osmaniye’de sezonda 6 bin 500 ton bamya üretimi yapılıyor

Osmaniye Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Mustafa İlmeç, stated that 6,500 tons of okra were produced throughout the season, ranking the province fourth in Turkey in terms of production. Provincial Director Mustafa İlmeç visited Ahmet Kaan Coşkun, an okra farmer in the Cevdetiye district, and participated in the okra harvest. He met with farmworkers to exchange information, noting that okra production in Osmaniye has become a popular alternative agricultural product in recent years and that its production area is expanding daily. Mustafa İlmeç said, “As of 2023, okra is being produced in Osmaniye on 2,700 decares of land, yielding approximately 2.5 tons per decare. During the season, 6,500 tons of okra are produced. According to TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute) data, Osmaniye ranks fourth in okra production. In terms of area and yield, Osmaniye ranks fourth, behind Balıkesir, İzmir, and Amasya. Currently, the market price for okra is 30 TL.” A MORE PREFERRED AGRICULTURAL PRODUCT BY FARMERS Director İlmeç noted that the grower has been producing okra for many years, noting that labor is the largest cost for farmers. İlmeç said, "Under these conditions, our farmers say that okra production is an economic asset. Naturally, okra production in our province begins with planting around March 15th, harvesting begins around May 15th, and there's a five-month production period following harvest. Harvesting is done daily and delivered to the market daily. This daily harvest makes it more economical for our farmers and a more desirable agricultural product. Okra produced in our province is shipped to surrounding provinces and major cities. Okra is an essential part of Turkish cuisine, favored by our people for its culinary benefits as a source of health and healing. Some of the okra produced is offered fresh, while others are dried for consumption."
