When Your Pastor Tries to Be Your Therapist: 7 Warning Signs 1 - If you pastor positions themselves to be your sole emotional support, without ever suggesting outside help, that should be a huge red flag. 2 - If your pastor interprets all mental health struggles as sin issues, that should be a huge red flag. 3 - If your pastor starts telling you that you don’t need to be on medication for your mental health or that you need more or less medication, that should be a huge red flag. 4 - If your pastor tends to downplay your trauma, that should be a red flag. 5 - If your pastor is trying to offer psychological advice that is beyond their expertise, that should be a big red flag. 6 - If your pastor is making you more dependent, rather than less dependent on them, that should be a red flag that perhaps they’re trying to set themselves up as the sole source of wisdom and authority in your life. 7 - If your pastor believes that biblical literacy equates to emotional maturity, that should be a red flag. #churchleadership #pastor #faithandmentalhealth
