The Twelve Apostles, Australia. World's best ocean views

The gorgeous Twelve Apostles.... This is one of my favourite places in Australia. I still remember the feeling I had when I first visited the viewing platform at the Twelve Apostles. The place struck me as astonishingly beautiful. I could truly feel the power and immensity of the Southern Ocean. Since then, I keep coming back here again and again to experience the strength of the ocean, its vast open spaces, and the endless, remarkably clean beaches stretching for hundreds of meters. This place is a true Australian icon, which is why it is always crowded with tourists from early morning until late evening. So be prepared for the viewing platforms to be full of visitors, especially international tourists, and try to make your way down to the beach if you have the time and opportunity — not everyone goes that far, since many prefer to stay at the lookouts. Interestingly, there were never actually twelve Apostles. Today, there are even fewer of them (eight), although it all depends on how you count. The number changes depending on whether you include the smaller limestone formations of the nearby Bay of Islands, for example. There has never been any official classification for the number of Apostles, and the number “Twelve” was chosen purely for marketing purposes. The limestone formations that make up the “Apostles” are slowly but steadily being eroded by the sea (at a rate of about two centimetres per year) and by possible minor seismic activity. From time to time, collapses occur (most recently in 2005 and 2009). So one day, this natural wonder may disappear entirely as the remaining Apostles eventually collapse as well. Locals sometimes say that “the Apostles are slowly descending into the sea.” Please note this is open ocean. On the day I filmed, it was relatively calm, but still I would not recommend swimming there, as the waves can be large and the currents dangerous. A long time ago, someone very close to me and I planned to come here together and visit this place. Unfortunately, we parted ways long ago, but I still keep that fond memory close, and it makes me feel a little sad every time I return here.
