2012 Glass Masters Series Jay Musler
Jay Musler brings to contemporary glass a creative point of view and personal vision unlike any who came before him. His innovative approach to making things was born out of boredom with production glassblowing and a need to forge his own path to creative independence. Jay's iconoclastic body of work has earned him an international audience and is represented in some of the most prestigious museum glass collections in the world. He receives this attention by bringing nontraditional processes to his glass artmaking. His mixed-material techniques allow him to internalize his interests in objects such as masks, boats, bowls and sculpture recreated in highly personalized ways. Jay's far-ranging artistic influences and inventive processes distinguish him as a singular artist, whose work transcends craft, material and process. Watch as Jay Musler demonstrates how to make a wine goblet using a lathe at the 2012 International Flameworking Conference.
