The Ultimate Firemaking - Ilkka Seikku

Making fire without anything else but unprepared natural materials, taken straight from the nature. This might be a piece of cake in some parts of the world, but in this video, I make the fire in Finland in late winter/early spring in 21th March. It´s still freezing cold and snow has melted away only from the warmest hills. All the materials I use in this film are straight from nature. I went to woods about 2.00 pm and the fire was burning in 5.00 pm. I´ve done fire in this way numerous time in every time of year. In summer this time is shorter and in the middle of winter it could take even two days to get the fire. My favourite materials are red cedar and chaga. In this video I did not find any red cedar, so I use aspen. Not as good, but while the aspen is in right state, it´s good enough. There are many things to know to get exactly right materials. In northern world this is even more important, because here the moisture is very high and low temperatures does not dry the materials. I hope you´ll enjoy the video! -ilkka
