Removing the anchor before sailing offshore
Before I left Brazil I removed my anchor, which I don't usually do, but I wanted to shift as much weight aft and lower, and really seal up the hole where the chain enters the locker as much as possible. Every foot you can move any weight lower down or further towards the mast, especially from an extreme end like the bow, makes a real difference to how the boat perfoms, especially when beating into the wind, which there will be a lot of on this trip from Brazil to the Azores.
