Arresti Strage Marcianise del 1998

A group of Belforte hitmen opened fire on members of the rival clan in a farmhouse in Marcianise. The suspects are Salvatore Belforte, Michele Cirella, Roberto Vicale, and Achille Piccolo. The Carabinieri have served four arrest warrants on four convicted criminals believed to be affiliated with the rival Belforte and Piccolo Camorra clans, active in the Marcianise (Caserta) area, for the incident known as the "Maundy Thursday massacre," which occurred in April 1998, in which three people were killed. The suspects are Salvatore Belforte, Michele Cirella, Roberto Vicale, and Achille Piccolo. The incident occurred in a farmhouse in Marcianise; a group of Belforte hitmen opened fire on members of the rival clan. Elpidio Gravante and Giuseppe De Crescenzo, both linked to the Piccolo clan, died in the shootout; Achille Piccolo, although wounded, managed to kill Aniello Cirella, an ally of the Belfortes. To target the Piccolo clan, whose leadership expectations were then diminished, three clans from the Caserta and Naples areas joined forces: the Belfortes, the Egizio-Cirellas, and the De Senas. The decision by some members to become collaborators with justice allowed investigators to reconstruct the dynamics and motive of the attack twelve years later. The precautionary custody orders were issued by investigating judge Antonella Terzi at the request of prosecutors Vincenzo D'Onofrio, Raffaello Falcone, and Francesco Valentini.
