MUHC Hybrid Medical Grand Rounds 6/16/2026 at 12:00-13:00 Title: Allergy and Access to Care in Northern, Remote, and Indigenous Settings Speaker: Dr. Michelle Kwok, Allergist and Clinical Immunologist, Co-Presenter: Dr. Meng Zhu Shi, R3 in Internal Medicine, Co-Presenter: Dr. Marianne Bou Rjeily, R2 Internal Medicine Educational objectives: • Describe key barriers to timely and appropriate allergy and anaphylaxis care in northern and remote settings • Recognize how gaps in access to allergy care disproportionately affect northern, remote, and Indigenous populations • Identify practical clinician-level and system-level strategies to improve access to safe, evidence-based allergy care in northern and resource-limited contexts Biosketch of Dr. Michelle Kwok, Allergist & Immunologist: Dr. Michelle Kwok is an allergist and clinical immunologist based in Montréal, Quebec, whose work centers on improving access to allergy and anaphylaxis care in northern, remote, and Indigenous settings. She provides allergy and immunology care to pediatric and adult patients in Northern Quebec through a combination of in-person outreach clinics and telemedicine, including ongoing clinical work with Cree Nation communities of Eeyou Istchee and through the Ungava Tulattavik Health Centre. Her work is grounded in developing practical, equitable models of specialty care delivery, with a focus on shared care, clinician education, culturally responsive practice, and local capacity building. She is co-founder of Connexion Nordique, an initiative that supports allergy outreach and virtual care while working alongside local healthcare teams to strengthen sustainable services over time. In addition to her work in Canada, Dr. Kwok has contributed to allergy education initiatives internationally, including clinical teaching in Rwanda, with prior volunteer experience in several low-resource and cross-cultural settings.
