Slip Joint Build Along – Lanny Pattern | Episode 1

In this series I build two custom Lanny pattern slip joint knives from start to finish. This first episode covers the early stages of the build, including layout, drilling, liner preparation, and initial timing of the first knife. Throughout the series I’ll be building two knives side-by-side so viewers can see how the same process applies across multiple knives during a build. One knife features white micarta covers, while the second will be finished with ironwood scales and dovetailed brass bolsters. If you’re interested in traditional slip joint construction, timing, spring and tang fitment, and the overall workflow of building a custom folder, this series documents the process step by step. #knifemaking #slipjoint #customknife #traditionalfolders #lannypattern 00:00 Intro 01:35 Filing to pattern lines 04:38 Optical center punch 05:39 Grinding liners 07:46 Glueing liners 09:25 Locating holes in liners 10:37 Timing first knife 15:41 Surface grinding 17:18 Nail nick grinding 17:47 Setting spring tension 21:55 Plywood grinding jig
